What is the Lung Surveillance Program?

Our Lung Surveillance Program is a medical screening program for workers who may be at risk of developing lung problems because of certain work conditions. The program is designed to monitor changes in the lung in order to help identify occupational related lung disease at an early stage.

How is the program conducted?

At Intrinsic Analytics, our Lung Surveillance Program starts with an occupational exposure and respiratory health questionnaire, followed by a lung function test (spirometry) and a chest radiograph (x-ray) when necessary. Once a baseline is established, lung function is trended over time and interpreted by qualified specialists. Referrals are made to appropriate health care professionals when necessary.

What makes Intrinsic Analytics a leader in providing the Lung Surveillance Program?

Our Lung Surveillance Program is completed by highly trained and certified technicians to detect early signs of lung disease. Our program is compliant with Workplace Safety and Health regulations and guidelines. At Intrinsic Analytics, we use hospital grade equipment which exceeds the American Thoracic Society (ATS) standards for testing. In addition, we have qualified and experienced health care professionals analyze and interpret results. Furthermore, we often assist employers with the required government reports.

Who needs to be tested?

According to Workplace Safety and Health Regulations under Part 36.2 and Section 50 of the Workplace Safety and Health Act, employees who work with asbestos and silica are required to undergo regular occupational lung screening. However, there are other industries where workers are exposed to high levels of dust and/or chemicals such as isocyanides, which may also put workers at an increased risk of developing lung disease. Therefore, a lung health surveillance program with periodic monitoring is highly recommended for companies where these conditions may exist.
