Biometals are naturally occurring metals that are present in small measurable amounts in human body. They play an essential role in the biochemical reactions that take place in the humans. Processes such as oxygen transport and DNA replication are carried out in the presence of enzymes (DNA polymerase) that require biometals such as magnesium and zinc to function properly.
However, long term and prolonged exposure to a higher concentration of biometals has been found to adversely affect human health as well. Industrial settings where workers are exposed to higher concentrations of biometals include industries that work with coal and other mines, waste incineration, vehicle exhaust, fossil fuel and combustible compounds.
Intrinsic Analytics’ Metabolomic Platform assesses and analyses biometals that play a critical role in metabolic pathways and helps provide a “real time snapshot” of your health. Our Metabolomic Platform harnesses the power of metabolomics, the emerging technology that holds promise in personalized medicine and disease prevention. Intrinsic Analytics’ Metabolomic Platform is a unique, comprehensive, multiplex platform that offers BioMetals testing for heavy metals.
Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test is a multiplex assay that provides quantitative and qualitative analysis of biometals. The test can detect the presence of biometals such as lead, arsenic, chromium and others and help understand if its increased concentration has a role to play in organ damage or disease progression.
The BioMetals test helps to detect the concentration levels of the biometals and monitor the levels to understand associated disease initiation and progression.
Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test is a comprehensive multiplex assay for biometals assessment. We use the gold standard technology to test the presence of biometals present in minute quantities. The test results provide a snapshot of the current status of the biometals.
Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test is different from other available options as:
1. What to expect on the day of your appointment?
2. How do I get my results?
You will receive you results by encrypted email (password protected) or regular mail.
3. How do I prepare for the test?
Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions outlining “How to prepare for the test”.
Some general preparation instructions include:
4. How can I book Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test?
Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test can be booked online or you can also book an appointment over the phone.
Once the appointment is booked, the sample collection will be coordinated by us. Sample will be collected (blood) and sent to the laboratory for processing. Samples collected will be processed in an ISO certified laboratory. The results will be analyzed and interpreted by a team of experts at Intrinsic Analytics and the test report will be sent to the client.
5. Can I get a single Biometal assessment using Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetal Test?
Yes, you can get a single biometal assessment using our BioMetals Test. Our test can analyse upto XX biometals. You can choose one or more from the list available in the panel.
6. Is Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test covered under my provincial health coverage?
Intrinsic Analytics is a private company and does not fall under the umbrella of the provincial laboratories doing similar assessments. Therefore, the test is currently not covered under the provincial health coverage.
7. What are Biometals?
Biometals are defined as metals present in a small and measurable amount in the human body and are known to have a biochemical function to perform. Common examples include, copper, zinc, manganese, iron and others.
8.Are heavy metals different from biometals?
Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements to which one may get exposed to in an industrial setting. These metals are also found in the human body and play an essential role in biochemical reactions. Therefore are also referred to as biometals.
9. Can the BioMetals Test be used only for occupation related exposure?
No. The BioMetals test can be booked for both private testing or occupational health testing. Heavy metals exposure is commonly observed in industrial settings such as mining, vehnicle exhaust, waste incineration and others, therefore may gain interest from the employers as well. However, an individual can book the BioMetals Test privately for themselves as well.
10. What toxins are monitored using Intrinsic Analytics’ BioMetals Test?
Arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb) and mercury (Hg) are the heavy metals that are commonly known to exert harmful effects on human health. Our BioMetals test can assess the presence of the following heavy metals (list enclosed).
11. What are the major sources of emission for heavy metals?
The major sources of emissions and exposure of heavy metals include:
12. What is the Heavy Metals Screening Program?
Heavy metals are naturally occurring elements and typically impose a minimal health concern. However, in industrial settings where heavy metals are often found in higher concentrations, the potential health hazards to workers following continuous and long-term exposure are significantly augmented.
Intrinsic Analytics works with a gold standard technology and is capable of testing for all of these toxins through either a blood or urine sample.
