A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive set of tests and observations used to assess the ability of an individual to perform functional tasks safely and reliably. It is often used to uncover the extent of an injury or to monitor healing progress over time.
The Functional Capacity Evaluation identifies the person’s strengths, abilities, needs and preferences by completing the following:
Our certified FCE evaluators will begin by reviewing the individual’s medical history during the pre-evaluation and intake interview.
Next, individuals will be asked to perform a number of tests that have been designed to test various muscle groups.
Tests include positional tolerance, range of motion, strength, dexterity, stamina, and subjective pain assessments.
Specific tests conducted will depend on the nature of the existing injury or condition and are often completed in a single day to two days depending on the nature of the tests. Once completed, a detailed report is generated for employers or insurers in order that they may develop return to work modification plans or to address insurance qualifications.
Intrinsic Analytics uses research based equipment and protocols that have been designed to test clients in a safe, repeatable, and reliable manner. We offer both Matheson and Metriks trained evaluators to meet your company’s accepted testing methods. Our reports are comprehensive and well-articulated.
FCEs are often required by insurance companies to determine whether an injured person may be eligible for disability payments or pension. FCEs can also be used as part of a return to work program to determine whether an injured worker may return to regular or modified work duties.
