What are the Benefits of Vaccination?
Vaccination can provide enhanced immunity against specific viruses that are known to cause disease. Immunity from vaccinations is typically related to specific viruses and formulation of the vaccination. For example, the influenza vaccine is effective for a duration of approximately 6 months while the tetanus vaccine is effective for several years.
Workers that may be at risk of serious illness based on advanced age or other medical conditions will ofte see additional benefits from vaccinations such as reduced length of illness and reduced risk of hospitalization or death, if they have been vaccinated prior to exposure.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?
Research shows that vaccinations are beneficial for everyone. However, workers who may be at higher risk of serious illness or who regularly interact with vulnerable individuals should be vaccinated. Types of workers that may see increased risk of infection include health care workers, first responders, caregivers of young children, and those who provide services within closed settings. Those at risk of serious illness include people 65 years of age and older, children less than 5 years of age, individuals with chronic health conditions, pregnancy, and indigenous peoples.
